Through the Looking Glass
Cracked Perceptions: It’s time we woke up to the beauty of older women!
This body of work was the result of a ‘creativity assignment’. As a portrait photographer I want to do more than create pretty pictures and as an artist I am deeply motivated to challenge and disrupt the experience and perception of beauty.
A broken mirror inspired this series of self portraits - cracked yet pieced back together as many of us are. Representing older women, I stand witness to the emotions related to my own aging process: observation, fear, resistance, rage and finally acceptance.
In the end, I remember I am just making faces in a mirror as cracked as myself. I am perfect and beautiful in my imperfections.
